The punk rock icon suffered from a heroin addiction for years and eventually died from overdosing. This was shortly after he was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, when she was found stabbed to death in their hotel room.

A year earlier Sandy Denny the singer with Fairport Convention died of a brain hemorrhage and The Who drummer, Keith Moon, also died from a drug overdose.
