Hard-to-see: The secret life in the oceans
Microbes: Globigerinoides
These pink bubbles are live planktonic foraminifera from the Sargasso Sea, a group of single-celled animals that produce multi-chambered tests to protect their amoeba-like jelly bodies inside carbonate 'tests' or shells. The red line represents 200 microns; the forams are about 1/2 millimetre in diameter.
