Ensure that you have thick curtains that really keep the light out as this will prevent furniture fabrics from fading. Try to vacuum upholstered furniture at least once a week, as the dust helps to wear it down day by day.

Don't allow your pets on the furniture either, as their paws and claws can carry some damaging particles with them which can ruin softer fabrics.
