Halo 3 is the most widely anticipated Xbox 360 release of all time, with multi-million dollar advertising spreading like wildfire across the world. The Americans got the first bite but on this side of the pond the leftovers will no doubt be greatly appreciated.

The previous two Halo titles sold over 15 million copies. Microsoft hopes day one sales of the game will top 70m ($140m), which would surpass the opening box office earnings of any movie in history.

More than a million people pre-ordered the game, which tells the concluding part of a science fiction trilogy concerning a soldier called Master Chief, who fights to save humanity from an alien race called the Covenant.
