Powered flight
After years of careful planning, Brit Percy Pilcher finally finished his powered triplane invention in 1899. By the end of that year, Pilcher's powered triplane was very nearly ready for flight. However, whilst gliding his previously reliable "Hawk", Pilcher fell, and died from his injuries two days later. Pilcher's powered triplane was never flown, but the "invention" beat the AmericansÂ’ by 4 years.
