Biggest box office flops
4. 'Heaven's Gate' (1982)
Budget:$44 million
Domestic Gross:$3.5 million
Despite the fact that director Michael Cimino had a best-selling novel to work from and a cast filled with A-listers like Christopher Walken and John Hurt, he delivered the horrific final cut of this epic Western late, over budget and at thee-hours 39-minute long. It premiered in New York but was received so poorly that it was re-edited down to 149 minutes. But audiences still had to endure a deeply flawed piece of work that truly fell flat.
Total loss:$40.5 million
