Actor Bruce Willis had to rush to the set of his new film Die Hard 5 in Budapest on his day off after he was informed that a fire had broken out on set following an explosive stunt gone wrong.
The Expendables actor was at his hotel in the city when the incident happened. He was supposed to be on break as his stunt double filmed an explosion scene. This, however, did not keep the actor, who is hitting the big screen for the fifth time as wise-cracking cop John McClane, from racing to the set after receiving a phone call informing him of the news. He arrived moments after the fire began and helped to salvage some equipment and cameras that almost got destroyed in the fire.
In the scene, a fire was supposed to start in the lobby as a helicopter landed nearby, but the aircraft – about 200 feet in circumference - was said to have fanned the controlled fire, thereby causing it to spread easily in the set, which was constructed out of wood.
The stuntman was thankfully uninjured, and fire crew from surrounding areas was eventually able to control the blaze.
