Super League's star prop suddenly passed away on October 13 2008, leaving the rugby world in shock.

The 2007 Wakefield player of the year, who had celebrated his 31st birthday just seven days before, collapsed while training in the gym with a suspected heart attack and died. A statement from the club said:

"The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are sad to announce the sudden passing of Adam Watene. The circumstances surrounding Adam's death were sudden and unexpected."

Less than a week earlier Spanish golf legend Ballesteros was taken ill following a brain seizure, making October 2008 a dire month for sport.
