Ibanez JEM
Co-developed by Steve Vai, this Ibanez is noted for its "monkey grip" cut out in the top of the body. While the hand hole serves little musical purpose, it, along with its association with the virtuoso axeman, has helped the JEM become a real diamond in the rough.
First produced in 1987, there have since been five variants on the model to choose from. Their general appearance is that of more aggressive Strat, but Vai also injected a lot of his own unique taste into the design.
Vai's personal choice of specific DiMarzio pickups for each model combined with Ibanez's innovative Japanese wiring provide spectacular tonal versatility. Hard rock, acid-jazz, avante garde? No problem. It's also rather easy to carryÂ…Â
