Biggest box office flops
5. 'Cleopatra' (1963)
Budget: $44 million
Domestic Gross:$26 million
Elizabeth Taylor's personal life went into crisis while filming, which didn't go down well with the public (a near death illness and a marriage ending), but that was just the tip of the iceberg with this film. It was originally budgeted for $2 million, then the costs ballooned to $44 million (current equivalent: about $295 million) almost enough to bankrupt 20th Century Fox. There really was a time when bad publicity was actually a bad thing.
Total loss:$18 million
