Christmas traditions explained!
Father Christmas
Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, first appeared in carols back in the 15th century.
He then became rather a regular figure from the 17th century in England, often portrayed as a heavy, bearded man and person of good Christmas cheer.
Since Victorian times, he has been observed as St Nicholas, the great Christmas gift-giver, whose tradition started in German folklore.
