Doreen Lawrence is to be a peer

Doreen Lawrence, the mother of murdered teen Stephen Lawrence, is to be a Labour peer

Doreen Lawrence, the mother of the teenager Stephen Lawrence, is to be a Labour peer. This relates to Doreen Lawrence’s name being included on a list of peerages.

This allows Doreen Lawrence to sit in the House of Lords.

Stephen Lawrence was 18 years old when he was killed. He was stabbed by a gang of white youths when he was waiting at a bus stop in South London. He was killed in 1993.

Since his death, Doreen Lawrence has been campaigning to discover more about what happened to her son Stephen Lawrence.
In January 2012 two men were convicted of the murder of Stephen Lawrence.

Doreen Lawrence set up the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust in memory of her son.
