Tom Cruise has met new girlfriend Sofia Vergara's mother - showing their romance is getting serious.

The Hollywood heartthrob, who began dating the Latino actress two months ago, was thrilled when she took him home to introduce him to her family.

Sofia's aunt, Lilita Jamarillo, revealed: "She's introduced him to her mother, Margarita. That's a big step for them."

Last month, Tom and Sofia were photographed together for the first time after enjoying a romantic night out.

The handsome actor took the brunette beauty out to eat at 4am after partying the night away.

The romantic evening ended when he

gave Sofia a goodnight kiss after taking her back to her Los Angeles apartment in his chauffeur-driven car.

Sources claim Tom and Sofia are "smitten" with each other, with one adding: "Tom has been single for a while and has been throwing himself into work. But he felt the time was right to start dating again."

Sofia has previously dated singers Enrique Iglesias and Craig David while Tom - who has two adopted children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman - has been single since splitting from Penelope Cruz last March.
