On the back of a resurgent small companies sector F&C Management has produced a free guide to help investors.
"The global smaller companies sector enjoyed a resurgence last year and has grown by 62 per cent," said Sandy Fleming, the fund manager of F&C Smaller Companies PLC said
"For comparison, the FTSE 100 grew by just 25 per cent over the same period," he added.
To help consumers take advantage og this F&C is offering a free "Guide to Investing in Smaller Companies".
The guide offers advice about smaller, lesser known companies that investors do not automatically chose when putting their money into shares.
Investing in smaller companies carries more risk than investing in larger companies; as such F&C recommend an investment made through an investment trust to spread that risk.
"Many investors want to include smaller companies in their portfolios, but do not have the time or facilities to research individual companies themselves. Investing through F&C Smaller Companies offers a solution," added Mr Fleming.
F&C's small company trust is available for investment through F&C's Private Investor Plan, Investment Trust ISA and PEP and Pension Savings Plan.
