Angelina Jolie was 27 when she adopted a nine-month-old boy - whom she named Maddox - from Cambodia in 2002.

Despite bemoaning problems with adopting as a single woman, she adopted a baby girl in July 2005 - a five-month-old Ethiopian Aids orphan she called Zahara Marley Jolie. Angelina picked out Zahara when Maddox blew her a kiss at the orphanage. On March 15, 2007, Jolie adopted a three-year-old boy from Vietnam, called Pax Thien.

Brad Pitt has since adopted the children, now known as the Jolie-Pitts. The couple also have a biological child called Shiloh Nouvel who was born in May 2006.
