‘X Files’ actress Gillian Anderson has revealed that a third film of the popular sci-fi thriller franchise is in the pipeline.
Anderson, who found international fame playing FBI agent Dana Scully in the show, told the press at the Sarajevo Film Festival that there were discussions to release the, as yet, untitled film in 2012.
Anderson said: “There isn’t any reason not to do it. It was fun, it was hard work. I feel a certain commitment to that group of people that I worked with and we still enjoy doing it, when we do it.
"There is no reason why not to come together and do it again. If they can pull it off, weÂ’ll find some reason to make it. There isn't any reason not to do it."
The two previous ‘X Files’ movies were released in 1998 and 2008, while the series was broadcast from 1993-2002.
Anderson played a sceptical FBI doctor while David Duchovny starred as the conspiracy loving agent Fox Mulder. The duo investigated the mysterious X Files – supernatural related cases that were unsolved and shelved by the FBI.
The initial ‘X Files’ film entitled ‘Fight the Future’ earned nearly $200m worldwide, while last year’s sequel, ‘I Want to Believe’ underperformed but still recouped its budget after it earned $68m at the box office.
