Xbox 360 Controller: Substitute for manual transmissions system by a Ford engineer
Manual transmission system explored
10:27 01 August 2013
With the conventional manual transmission in car systems fading out, a Ford engineer, after much research, found a method to make manual transmission a little bit easier to adjust to.
This method was achieved with a vibrating shifter knob. With his explanation after the break in his video, Zach Nelson first made use of an Xbox 360 controller to achieve the vibrating system mechanism, after which he turned to a 3D-printed Knob and later to an Arduino controller.
The interactive vehicle system by the robust Ford’s OpenXC software platform had made the user recognise the change of gears by means of a trigger.
There is an advanced system that tracks the gear shifts and guides the users in terms of fuel efficiency. This would be an innovative device to save the fuel and provide safer environment for us to live.
