Will E-Cigarettes Ever Adopt Smart Technologies
Smart technology seems to be everywhere nowadays, from the way we use Google to the cars that we drive.

With every aspect of our lives quickly becoming driven by all things ‘smart’ it can be simple to see why the potential for the future across multiple industries is just so high. From cigs that track your habits, to devices that let you mix up e liquid flavours on the go without needing to carry bottles, we’re taking a look at the smart technology already shaking up the e-cigarette industry.
How Do Smart E-Cigarettes Work?
How a smart e-cigarette works typically depends on the style that it takes and the features that it holds, but generally, a smart ecig typically functions like any other vape or cig but with a few added features to make the entire process much more advanced. They can enhance the entire process, offering anything from hit control and nicotine levelling to flavour mixing and overall tracking of your Vape usage. In theory, the more that anyone smoker used their smart device, the more could be learned by the device and the more personalised the overall experience would get.
The ‘First’ Smart E-Cigarette
Smart e-cigarettes aren’t an entirely new thing on the market. In fact, the first smart cigarette was said to be Smokio, released in April 2014 to offer the world the first ever connected vaping experience. This ecig was designed to be able to connect to your phone to provide up to date and ongoing data and insight into your smoking habits. It was typically a pretty standard vape in design and usage, but the monitoring technology, in particular, revolutionised the way that people used ecigs or thought about the entire vaping process.
Enovap
Enovap came a few years later in the form of a crowd-funded project intending to further develop Smokio and other smart ecig technology. This electronic cigarette was initially designed to help users control their nicotine intake by utilising two tanks through ‘hit control’. This allowed vapers to not only change up nicotine levels, but do it instantly through a single device without having to change up liquids. It was also possible to change up between two flavours to a measurement that suited them. This kind of technology was set to revolutionise the industry even further and with even further developments ongoing throughout recent years, it’s entirely possible that it had.
What Does The Future Hold?
The potential behind smart technology in any industry is always worth noting, but for those who utilise electronic cigarettes and vapes, the introduction of these smarter technologies could change the way they smoke each day. With wider development, the cost of these devices has the potential to drop considerably, making it much more accessible for all who want to try it.
In short, the potential for the future is exactly that – potential. Only time will tell just how far this stretches and what we could truly see in the industry, but provided developments continue as they already are, the future is definitely looking bright.
