What is The Smart Belfast Framework?
The Smart Belfast Framework – What is it and what benefit it can offer?
14:01 22 February 2018
The Smart Belfast Framework focuses on creating an environment that can help boost cross-sectoral innovation. It is all about building the necessary foundation needed by the city to effectively harness its amazing pool of talent as well as technical infrastructure to provide long-term and sustainable solutions to urban policy challenges.
The initiative aims to bring together local businesses, universities and innovators to create cutting-edge products that address the growing needs of twenty-first century cities and to resolve challenges being faced by different sectors and industries, including tourism, health, traffic and waste management.
Such frameworks are already being used by other cities, including Manchester, Bristol, Dublin and Glasgow in delivering innovative joint projects, transforming public services for citizens and communities, leveraging private sector investment and grant funding and providing a welcoming environment for local SMEs and entrepreneurs to innovate.
Meanwhile, the Smart Belfast Framework sets out a number of proposals, including guiding principles for a Smart Belfast, four foundations needed to deliver collaborative innovation, a roadmap that lists down the needed activities and projects designed to strengthen the foundations.
