Renfrewshire Team Up with iOpt Assets

An IoT initiative in Renfrewshire that offers solutions to housing problems can save Scotland millions of pounds.

Renfrewshire, one of Scotland’s 32 council areas, have started an initiative that aims to provide solutions to social housing problems with the goal to help local authorities save millions of pounds on property management.

 

The initiative uses the power of Internet of Things (IoT) to gather crucial information that can help authorities detect whether residents are living in fuel poverty.

 

Renfrewshire Council partnered with iOpt Assets, a smart asset management company, to detect temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels in 50 social homes around Paisley. Equipped with crucial information, the council is able to take preventative measure and address any issues before they even turn into costly problems.

 

Based on initial testing, it is estimated that the initiative can offer the council a 600per cent return on investment. It is iOpt Assets hope that such benefits can be extended to housing associations across the country by rolling out the same sensing technology to 2,000 homes by the end of the year.

It’s delivering significant returns by allowing the council to predict issues and be proactive with maintenance, which is invariably more cost effective than having to deal with them after the fact. It also reduces the need for regular property visits and administration, while also leading to reduced premiums in large property portfolios.”
