Watford Borough Council has recently launched the taxi and footfall technology challenge as it seeks for innovative technologies that can keep track of taxis and number of shoppers in a town centre.
Developers who are up for the challenge can get up to £20,000 funding if they find a way to confirm when taxis are in specific ranks and if non-taxis are parked in bays. The goal is to help customers easily and quickly find disabled accessible taxis and direct drivers to the best ranks.
Meanwhile, up to £10,000 funding is available for the other challenge, which is to count the number of people in the town centre over days and weeks. The goal is to assess the success of certain events and determine how this changes from year to year.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We are a bold and progressive council and we’re always looking at ways that we can improve services for people who live in our town. I want your thoughts on how we can be a tech-savvy council. I look forward to hearing from you.”
