Based on a recent government consumer study, Apple’s iPhone 5 is the most likely mobile device to be stolen, it has been revealed.
The classic smartphone was followed by other sought-after Apple products including the similar iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S and the device it updated, the iPhone4S.
The Blackberry 9790 landed the number 5 spot of the government study. Other handset brands that made it to the top 10 include Samsung and HTC.
The list, which was published by Home Secretary Theresa May for the Home Office, analysed theft data rates from August 2012 up to January 2014.
Ms May said: "Crime has fallen by more than 10% under this government.
"However, the level of mobile phone theft remains a concern and people are increasingly carrying their lives in their pockets, with bank details, emails and other sensitive personal information easily accessible through mobile phones.
"This is why it is vital that government, police and industry work together to tackle this crime."
The paper found that 14 to 24-year-olds are most at risk of theft, with women being particularly vulnerable.
