Polling stations will be opened to the public between 7:00 and 22:00 BST. Results for the local elections will be announced on Friday while results for European elections will come on Sunday.
Voting will take place in the EU’s other 27 member states over the next four days. On Thursday, the voting will take place in the Netherlands. In total, there are 751 MEPs being chosen.
Seats on all 32 London boroughs are up for election. In England, a third of seats are being contested on dozens of district and unitary authorities.
Voters will choose mayors in Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Watford.
There are no local elections in either Scotland or Wales.
