First judge confirmed for new series...

Music mogul LA Reid has been confirmed as the first judge to appear on the US X Factor panel.

LA stepped down from being the Chairman and CEO of record label Island Def Jam to fulfil his role on the new television show.

The record company have released a statement confirming the news, saying:

"Antonio 'LA' Reid has chosen to step down from his position as Chairman and CEO of Island Def Jam in order to participate in the upcoming US premiere of the X Factor.

"We certainly wish him all the best with his new career choice and thank him for his contributions over the last several years."

Reid also released his own statement, in which he said he is looking forward to the challenge.

Auditions for the US version of the X Factor will begin on 27 March, with the show airing in the autumn.
