US adviser killed by woman dressed as Afghanistan police officer
This could be the latest ‘green-on-blue’ attack, and the first to be carried out by a woman
16:02 24 December 2012
A woman wearing Afghanistan police clothing has killed a US adviser in Kabul on Monday, NATO has confirmed. The incident is understood to have taken place at the police headquarters, with the victim being linked to international security forces according to reports.
It is thought that this could be another ‘green-on-blue’ attack; where rogue Afghanistan soldiers turn on troops based in the area. Also, this could mark the first attack of this kind carried out by a female, as previous ‘green-on-blue’ attacks have concerned male ‘attackers’ only.
The killing happened as a woman dressed in police uniform was supposedly looking for the police chief. Some officials are reportedly linking the female with the Taliban.
A woman has been taken in by officials and it is understood there will be a full investigation carried out by police to determine whether the attack was accidental or not.
This latest news poses the question whether NATO can operate alongside Afghanistan forces. The idea behind NATO’s training operation is to help Afghanistan and foreign forces operate together.
Many foreign bodies will be removed from Afghanistan by 2014.
