A recent paper published in Scientific Reports has confirmed that University of Manchester researchers have designed graphene sensors embedded into radio-frequency identification (RFIDs) with the goal to revolutionise the Internet of Things (IoT).
In order to create a flexible heterostructure, they refined remote sensing humidity sensors by layering graphene-oxide over graphene. This allows sensors to be printed layer-by-layer for scalable and mass production at a low cost. The invention has many applications in food safety, healthcare and nuclear waste. It can also be used to simplify the process of data gathering using wireless systems.
