Metrolink Inspectors Get Body Cameras

Metrolink inspectors to use body cameras to crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

Following more than 1,200 attacks to the Metrolink network for the past two years, all Metrolink inspectors are now getting body cameras to improve passenger safety and security and crackdown on anti-social behaviour. The move aims to stop yobs who hurl missiles, vandalise trams and stops, commit arson, smash windows and harass staff.

 

Transport bosses are also rolling out new high visibility digital signs that warn would-be troublemakers that they are on CCTV. The resulting footage will be used in criminal investigations and prosecution.

 

Other measures that have been taken to address the problem include placing full-time guards on trams.

 

Chris Jackson, service delivery director at KAM, said that body cams promote confidence, moderate behaviour and help de-escalate situations.

 

Meanwhile, Bev Hughes, deputy mayor for policing and crime, said that measures that are being taken so far on the Metrolink network benefits passengers as they will not feel intimidated or feel concerned about others behaviour.

 

“Public transport is a safe way to travel and tactics such as this, which further boost safety and security, help us to reinforce and maintain that,” she added.
