French firm Axione Fibre is set to rollout ultrafast broadband in St Andrews as part of a £300 million investment that aims to bring the service across suburban and rural locations throughout the United Kingdom.
As part of the scheme, Axione, which will serve as a wholesale-only operator, will partner with internet service providers, integrators, operators and channel partners to offer gigabit broadband services to end-users.
Axione has filed an application for at least four new street telecommunications cabinets within St Andrew's conservation area to Fife Council. If approved, the 1.6metre cabinets will be built in North and South Streets as well as at North Car Park in Argyle Street and St Mary's Place Car Park.
Pierre Vanstoflegatte, president of Axione, said: “In all the countries in which we operate, we want to do more to deliver essential resources to local and regional communities, helping them to forge their future.”
