According to the draft Drones Bill that is set to be published this summer, drones will be banned from flying within 1km of airport boundaries and above 400 feet starting 30 July 2018. Drone owners will be required to register their drones with the CAA if they weigh at least 250 grams and they also have to take an online test “to ensure the UK’s skies are safe from irresponsible flyers.”
Aviation Minister Baroness Sugg said: "Drones have great potential and we want to do everything possible to harness the benefits of this technology as it develops. But if we are to realise the full potential of this incredibly exciting technology, we have to take steps to stop illegal use of these devices and address safety and privacy concerns.”
Drone users will be given access to information they need to know to make sure that any planned flight can be made safely and legally. The bill gives the police powers to intervene if drones are used inappropriately.
NoFlyDrones.co.uk website provides a detailed map indicating no-fly zone areas across the country, such as airspace surrounding nuclear power stations and prisons. Drone users should also keep clear of vehicles, people and buildings by at least 50metres.
