Bristol City Council to spend at least £3million to upgrade its MS Office software.

Bristol City Council is set to renew its MS Office software license that is set to expire on June 30. The renewal of licenses to continue to use programmes, such as Powerpoint, Excel and Word will cost the council between £3-£5million.

 

According to the report that is set to be submitted on 5 June, the cost could be higher or lower depending on the type of digital products to be used. If basic Microsoft programmes are to be utilised, the council can save on cost. However, more advanced software can offer the council more advanced features, including cloud migration technology.

 

“These products underpin the fundamental day-to-day operation of the organisation, as well as providing a common, almost universal, format to allow sharing of documents and information with other organisations,” the cabinet report says.

 

“Additionally, some back end services and line of business applications are reliant on integration with Microsoft Office products.

 

“These needs are currently serviced within existing budgets. Although overall staff numbers may have reduced within the authority, the use of technology, hence licence requirements, has increased.”
