Top of the Pops is back
BBC to bring back axed music show...
08:54 31 March 2011
The BBC has announced that it will be re-broadcasting episodes of Top of the Pops from 1976.
The broadcaster has decided to show every weekly episode from the year, starting on 7 April.
Viewers will see Tony Blackburn, Jimmy Saville and Dave Lee Travis hosting the countdown, just like in the 70s.
Some of the chart-topping acts to feature will include Elton John and Kiki Dee, Abba, Showaddywaddy and Demis Roussos.
The BBC has said it is committed to the re-runs for at least a year but maybe even longer, depending on its popularity.
The year 1976 was chosen to kick start the series as it was the first year in which every episode of the show was recorded and kept.
Top of the Pops was cancelled in 2006 after audience figures dwindled, however the programme returns every year for a Christmas special.
