Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have officially and legally ended their marriage. The divorce has been finalised just two months after the high-profile couple announced their separation back in June. 

 

Katie, 33, filed for divorce from Tom, 50, two months ago in June and cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the separation. The case, details of which were kept confidential, was concluded on Monday after a judge in New York agreed to the final judgment.

 

In the divorce case she filed, Katie petitioned for sole legal custody and primary residential custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter Suri. Her petition was approved, although Tom was granted permission to see his daughter in scheduled outings. 

 

Last month, the former spouses released a joint statement saying: “We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests.”

 

Sources close to Tom say that the actor is pleased about the quick proceedings and that he is looking forward to moving on from the divorce. 

 

“His priority is being a good father and this settlement will make sure that continues.”

 

The couple was married for a total of five years after walking down the aisle in November 2006. They met and began dating in April 2005.
