08:24 30 June 2009
Corona Extra has been voted as the world's favourite beer.
A poll of more than two million Facebook users revealed the preferred lager, beating off stiff competition after acquiring more than 645,000 votes.
The Mexican-brewed lager, distinctive for being served with a slice of lime, triumphed over other world tipples including Dutch favourite Heineken and Ireland's staple dark brew Guinness.
Chris Lewis, director of Corona's British distributor Wells and Young's, said: "It is a premium beer and deserves to be the Facebook favourite as it is among the world's biggest selling beer brands."
The top five beers were:
- Corona Extra, 645,445 votes
- Heineken, 594,475 votes
- Guinness Draught, 396,276 votes
- Stella Artois, 350,825 votes
- Budweiser, 343,493 votes
