The Women’s Super League Gets Ready to Start 2013 Season
Who Can Dethrone the Arsenal Ladies?
09:50 01 April 2013
The WSL (Women’s Super League) is kicking off its 2013 season with much hype and fanfare. Women’s football continues to grow in popularity and the WSL continues to build its reputation since its inception two years ago.
This figures to be the best season of the WSL’s short life, and as the teams look ahead to next year’s expansion into two tiers, they’re scrambling to bring on more talent to get ready for stiffer competition to come.
Once again the team to beat is the Arsenal Ladies who have won the two previous WSL titles, two Continental Cups and one FA Cup. Rising star Kim Little is expected to be the anchor of this year’s team along with veteran Kelly Smith.
There are a total of eight teams competing for the championship this year, and the competition will be fierce as always. The Great Britain team performed admirably in the London Olympics and the enthusiasm continues.
As the WSL’s popularity continues to grow and expand expect more attention from the odds makers as more and more betters will want to wager a few pounds on their favourite teams.
The Arsenal Ladies are favourites to win the championship once again in 2013, but expect some strong competition from the Birmingham City Ladies who finished second to Arsenal in both the WSL and the Continental Cup.
It appears that the Women’s Super League is setting the bar for women’s football worldwide, and its success is sure to open the door for similar leagues to develop around the world as the sport continues to gain fans with each passing year.
