Whilst most of us can admit that we do our jobs to pay the bills until we win the lottery, there are some people out there who live for their job.
These are the people who bounce out of bed on a Monday morning, raring to go and do what they like best for the next 8 hours. Exactly who are these people, what do they do, and why are they so happy?
Just so you know, the UK ranked as the 15th happiest nation in the world in 2019. We have trudged through plenty of research and examined all the stats, to bring you a list of the top 10 happiest occupations for people in the UK.
- Landscape gardener
At number one are these gardening magicians. The talented folks who can turn an unwanted outdoor space into a heavenly area. Using clever designs and various equipment, these guys will work to create their client’s ideal gardens. Seeing the satisfied looks on their customers' faces, as well as being able to work outside must be incredibly rewarding.
- Dog Walker
If you’re a dog lover then you’ll totally get why this job makes it to number 2. Getting paid to exercise and spend time with dogs? Yes please! Being outside in the fresh air and having canine conversations must be incredibly soothing for the soul.
- Counsellor
This highly respected career comes in at number 3, and whilst we think that this job must be quite taxing we can see why it would be enjoyable. Helping adults and children through difficult life situations and having the sense that you have made a difference to someone’s life, has to be very fulfilling.
- Wedding Photographer
Who doesn’t like a good wedding? They fill us with love and make us feel all warm inside. And the party after is always amazing! Everyone feels good at a wedding. So, imagine being able to go to them all the time and get paid for it? Capturing the very special moments of a couples’ most important day must be great.
- Architect
Another creative role which requires many years at University, with qualified individuals being able to specialise in several areas. Architects are responsible for the science behind building and can design small houses for clients or huge skyscrapers. Knowing that your creation will stand the test of time and has made a difference to a landscape, must make architects all over the UK very happy.
- Tutor
These talented people often work privately, and their main aim is to assist students in various academic topics. Some will work on a 1:1 basis to prepare individuals for exams, or just as an extra layer of help for a pupil to understand a specific subject. Tutors work with children and young people of all ages, giving them the help and attention that they may not receive at school or college.
- Professional Card Player
Releasing your inner James Bond is never a bad thing, especially if this inner self comes to the forefront whilst you are sat in front of the felt of a casino table. Although a professional card players life is often thwart with risk and intensity, if you know your way around a pack of cards it can be very rewarding. This job can take several years of training and requires dedication and a high level of expertise.
- Gardener
We are back to our green-fingered friends again. Gardening for clients can take the shape of regular lawn mowing, weeding, planting, and making everyone’s green spaces look the best they can. We imagine this is quite a peaceful job, being outside at one with nature, and creating amazing spaces.
- Personal Trainer
This high energy role came in last at number 10 but by no means least. Another occupation that requires years of training and qualifications as well as an active personal interest. These clever individuals can turn peoples’ life’s around, helping them with nutrition and fitness. They assist a range of adults to achieve their goals, and we think this must give a great level of job satisfaction.
Where do these happy workers live?
A recent study carried out by a top recruitment agency showed us that the highest percentage of happy workers were based in the West and East Midlands. With the 3rd and 4th happiest area of the UK being the North West and South East Yorkshire & the Humber. So, if you’re a dog walker in Solihull or an architect in Sheffield then you must be smiling right now.
