Smart Pet Bed, a product created by a pet healthcare technology business called Petrics, has won an innovation award in both the Tech for a Better World and Smart Home categories at CES. It is also one of the 4,000 best gadgets listed by Wall Street Journal.
The pet bed uses thermoelectric technology, allowing pet owners to adjust the temperature of their dog’s bed depending on their geographic location and dog breed, among others.
CEO Edward Hall said that the climate control aspect is specifically helpful for owners with breeds that are used to a different climate, such as a husky living in Florida.
The device also helps owners keep track of their pet’s weight and sleep pattern. The built-in tracker sends information to a smartphone. This helps owners make well-informed decision when it comes to their pet’s health and well-being.
Barbara Butler, a veterinarian, said that pet obesity is a major problem she encounters.
“I think some folks have a hard time judging what is an appropriate amount of food for their pet,” she said.
