Mid Devon Council says that a broadband boost could be in the cards for rural areas across Devon.
Chris Shears, Mid Devon Council’s economic development officer has confirmed that they are working with other districts to raise funds in order to provide better broadband access across Devon.
He confirmed that last month’s full fibre network workshop in Cardiff has opened the possibility of making a significant pot of money for superfast broadband. He said: “Everyone recognises that it’s a key thing to the economic success of the district.
“It was a positive workshop, and we’re now looking at the potential to bid into that. That fund is put into a number of waves, so wave one was the expression of interest that we put in for and I can honestly say we’re still waiting to hear the outcome to that as they’ve never formally told us if it’s been successful.
“Wave two closes on January 26, and they’ve expecting very little uptake at that point because people are pulling bits together, and wave three will be in the summer so that people will be pulling bits together at the end of spring and start of the summer and then submitting it mid-summer.”
