The impact technology is playing on performance and outcomes in Sport
As technology continues to grow and improve it is becoming more and more involved in sport.

This is firstly helping to improve performance as we see endless records tumbling each year, such as the Marathon record in 2018. A lot of this is due to the new shoes invented by Nike, which have already shown to make vast improvements on many different athletes. Technology is also now playing a key role in officiating sport in order for the right calls and correct outcome to be made. Here we cover two key examples of this in two popular worldwide sports.
- Outcome
The biggest and most popular sport in the world is football, and it is always a popular betting option on Pokerstars in PA for many. Therefore when VAR was introduced this was always going to gather a lot of attention. The Video assistant referee is without a doubt one of the most relevant technological changes to have taken place in sport for some time. This was first really introduced at the recent World Cup in Russia last year, and this is now being used across several leading leagues in the sport.
So how does it work? The football assistant referee will review decisions made by the head referee through the use of video replays, whilst communicating to them via a headset. This is a fantastic addition as it means most situations are now reaching the correct outcome, resulting in a fare results. The different calls that are reviewed are goals, mistaken identity, penalty decisions and straight red cards.
- Performance
Technology is not just impacting human performance but also Equine. A key example of this is the Equimetre, which is likely to have been used by many trainers as we move nearer to the Cheltenham festival. This is of course one of the most popular weeks in the sport.
So how does it work? The device helps to give trainers that edge, due to tracking everything they need to know on the horse whilst training. This works as a wearable device, which provides detailed analysis and data on the horses while they are training. This also provides details on the track and conditions at the time. The Equimetre then gives the data to connections in what training and conditions best suits the horse. This device can be key to making sure connections are reaching the potential with their horses.
