With the launch of a brand new mobile app, an upgraded and streamlined interface to make people’s lives easier and bring together gamers from all consoles, platforms and genres around the world.
As more and more people turn to mobile technology to enhance their daily lives, their standards for the look and feel of apps they use are naturally going increase. Without inventing brand new technology, one of the best ways to stay ahead of your opposition is to produce a better looking and easier to use product.
Xbox getting ahead of market trends
Never ones to be reactive to the market, Microsoft and Xbox have got a head start on their competition with a slick and, most importantly, useful new mobile application to complement their series of gaming consoles.
Optimizing UI and UX as a way to attract new customers isn’t a new idea, with brands in the retail, gaming, iGaming, travel, music and lately, E-learning platforms have all started to focus their efforts on making their product easier to use and offering more options to their clientele.
Customers have high expectations, and companies are rising to meet them. The latest example of this can be seen in the partnership between Amazon Music and streaming giant Twitch, whose joint venture allows artists to use the Amazon music app to livestream performances while letting fans engage with their favourite artists. This is an innovative way to fill the hole left by the many cancelled shows and performances of 2020.
The iGaming sector is also recognized for its dedication to creating the best user experience possible, and new online casinos in the iGaming industry are certainly making the most of this recent trend. Some of the best ways to stand out in a competitive industry is to optimize your UI and UX in order to make your app intuitive and easy to use. One prime example is the brand-new Captain Spins casino where the user experience helps players navigate seamlessly throughout the game lobby and it’s been designed with players’ convenience in mind.
While most of the “console wars” to this point has been a head-to-head dual between Sony and Microsoft, the latter is now clearly making a play for gamers’ goodwill and attempting to unite people on all platforms and consoles.
The unification trend in the gaming industry has been a theme of 2020, with many platforms making an effort to beautify their UI and reach gamers from other places. Steam and Epic are continuously adding games with cross-play functionality, which allows people to play together no matter from which online store they bought the game.
New Xbox mobile app functionality
The new Xbox app will allow users to upload clips of their gameplay directly to social media through the app, send messages to friends (not just on Xbox), check notifications, form parties, purchase games and manage their collection from wherever they are as long as they have their phone. The social and sharing elements are core to the new app’s design.
On PC, the most notable example of something like this is the attempt by the Good Old Games (GoG) online store to create an application that can integrate all online game storefronts and provide a single place from which games can be launched.
It is something gamers on PC have wanted for some time, considering how many different stores there are these days. While the app is functional, it is far from perfect and still needs to launch the store app the game was originally bought on, but it is a step in the right direction for sure.
There is no doubt mobile technology will continue to be an invaluable part of people’s lives for the foreseeable future and beyond, but the shifting landscape means initiative and innovation are more important than ever in getting an advantage over the competition.
