A report has claimed that Tesla is gearing towards launching its own music streaming service.
According to a Recode report, Tesla is in talks with music record labels about creating its streaming service that will come included in its high-end electric cars.
“We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose,” a Tesla spokesperson told Recode. “Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”
The company’s move is surprising for many as it has an existing deal with Spotify. Previous reports claim that the company might integrate Spotify into its US cars.
Business Insiders has noted that Elon Musk has briefly talked about the subject during a meeting with shareholders this month suggesting that he wants to explore more options as he finds it “difficult to find good playlist or good matching algorithm.”
Experts say that Tesla, which has sold over 100,000 cars so far, may find it challenging to convince users to use its streaming service over Apple Music or Spotify for which they are already paying for.
