Tandridge District Council CCTV Plans
Tandridge District Council to install £13,000 CCTV cameras to address repeated anti-social behaviour at Mint Walk play area.
21:23 14 June 2018
Tandridge District Council has successfully raised £13,200 with the help of Surrey County Council, Warlingham Parish Council, local businesses and residents to install CCTV system at Mint Walk play area.
The move is meant to address repeated anti-social behaviour in the area, including vandalism, graffiti sprayed on walls, littering and damage to equipment that makes them dangerous for children to play on. The CCTV cameras are scheduled to be installed at the end of June.
Councillor Pat Cannon, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said: “The persistent acts of vandalism and other anti-social behaviour at the Mint Walk play area, has caused great anger and concern among the local community.
"Raising the funds to install CCTV has been a real team effort and we are very grateful to local residents for their contributions.
"Having installed a £35,000 piece of equipment last year which has already been damaged several times, we want this to act as a deterrent and give us the ability to catch and prosecute future offenders.
"This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and offenders will be prosecuted. Providing a safe environment in which children can play, explore and enjoy being outside is something we take great pride in.”
