In the next two years, Swindon Borough Council will be moving all its services online and is expected to become a “digital first” council by 2020.
The council has been taking enormous steps as it is deeply committed to changing the way it interacts with customers and ensuring that the services it provides are easy to access.
On Wednesday, a draft Customer Access Strategy, which looks at how the council can improve customer access in the future, will be brought before the cabinet. The draft focuses on ensuring that at least 85per cent of customer transactions are completed online by 2020 and that people who are not plugged into the digital universe will not be left behind.
A public consultation on the draft strategy has yield encouraging results. An overwhelming number of respondents said that they are either very or extremely confident about accessing services online while 69per cent said that they prefer to engage with the council online. The survey also found that the web is the preferred channel for all age groups, including senior citizens.
If the cabinet agrees to adopt the Customer Access Strategy next week, residents can expect council services that are quick, easy and efficient.
