Superfly Developing Survey Drones

Drones to be used in the development of lower cost, speedier surveying services that aim to bring down building and maintenance bills.

Durham tech firm Superfly has confirmed that they are in the process of developing surveying services using drones. The business, which specialises in accurate inspection of buildings, provides tailored reports about the built environment.

 

The service will involve the services of an authorised team that is highly skilled in manoeuvring unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to gather data that are invisible to the human eye using multispectral cameras that use infrared thermal imaging.

 

Superfly’s founder and owner Al Yong said: “We can explore the space between land and sky where people haven’t traditionally gone,”

 

The firm’s biggest successes are large surfaces, such as flat roofs, as well as solar panel arrays. With the use of drone technology, the company will be able to identify the impact of standing water and leaks, deteriorating surfaces, malfunctioning panels, contamination risks and incorrect installation.

 

Mr Yong said: “Our services can literally strip out weeks of manpower.”

 

"It would take two people a week to inspect 1,000 panels, whereas with our drone one the job could be wrapped up in 30 minutes. The difference is that significant.”
