The city of Hull has confirmed its £5 million investment in a new data centre, which will play a huge role in realising its commitment of becoming a smart city.
The specially-designed data centre, which will be called CXNDC, will be built by Connexin, a local internet company with an existing 10-year contract with Hull City Council to provide WiFi service to the city centre.
CXNDC will feature ‘tier-3’ reliability specifications and will add more than 40,000 Mbps of internet connectivity to Hull. It will offer the option of managed or co-located facilities to businesses in the region.
The facility, which is expected to create 60 additional jobs, including engineers, technicians and sales staff, is set to open by December.
Furqan Alamgir, CEO of Connexin, said: “Hull is not hanging about in its race to become a smart city. Our investment is real, it’s happening and this state of the art data centre is proof of that. Hull is advancing technologically at pace and it’s a privilege to be part of it.”
