Comic and TV presenter Sue Perkins is slated to write a new sitcom for BBC Two. The new sitcom will be called Heading Out and will star Sue herself. She will play the role of Sara, a vet who is struggling about how to tell her parents that she is a lesbian. The sitcom will also star Dawn French, Jo Scanlan, and Nicola Walker.
The series will have six parts and will begin production in September. It is due out for broadcast next year.
In the sitcom, Sara’s friends try to convince her to let her parents in on her true sexual orientation. To help her out, her friends buy her a series of sessions with a lifestyle coach with an eccentric personality.
Nicola Shindler, executive producer for the show, described Perkins’s script as ‘fantastically original, smart, and witty’.
Perkins also described the project as ‘a joy to work on’. She expressed her hope that the joy will ‘prove to be infectious’.
Perkins is a veteran when it comes to writing for TV. The 42-year-old is also known for her various TV appearances including The News Quiz and Just a Minute. She has also starred in radio shows. Her work in television includes Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders, and Ronni Ancona and Co.
