Coronation Street bosses are set to introduce a new storyline to encourage viewers to volunteer their services to local good causes.
Caring characters Ashley and Claire Peacock will this month set about cleaning up Wetherfields Red Rec as part of the soaps campaign to support the governments Year of the Volunteer initiative.
The storyline will see 12 other members of the soaps cast pitching in to help Ashley and Claire clean up the park on behalf of children living on Coronation Street and nearby Rosamund Street.
But as usual, plans put in place by Corrie characters dont always run smoothly and the Peacocks efforts will be subject to a comic twist.
The plotline to encourage Corrie viewers to help out in their own local communities was dreamt up by the shows producers and ITV chief executive Charles Allen.
"Im delighted that by using the power of ITVs most successful programme Coronation Street we are able to convey the important message across about the benefits of volunteering and hope we inspire many people to follow the characters example to make a difference in their community," said Mr Allen.
