10:05 17 October 2011
Steps have made a triumphant and unexpected return to the top of the UK album chart.
The 90s pop group, made up of Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford-Evans, rocketed to the top of the charts with their Ultimate Collection.
ItÂ’s been nearly ten years since the pop outfit topped the charts. Their albums Steptacular and Greatest Hits both hit the top in 1999 and 2001 respectively, with their other albums, 1998's Step One and 2000's Buzz, also cracking the top five.
Lisa Scott-Lee tweeted her thanks, posting:
"To our amazing fans, wow #Steps are No.1, what can I say? So overwhelmed, happy, grateful & thankful. Words are not enough :-) Love ya all x."
Claire also took to her Twitter page to express her gratitude, saying:
"Thankyou. Still can't believe it! I don't think we could ever have expected this! Amazing! X"
The band beat newcomer Ed Sheeran, Evanescence and James Morrison to the UK album top spot.
