Southport Town Centre 5G Mast
Council approves proposals to build a 5G phone mast above tower block in Southport Town Centre.
19:19 23 February 2021
A third 5G phone mast will be installed in Southport after the local council approved Mobile Broadband Network Ltd’s application for the 40-metre 5G infrastructure. It will be installed above a block of flats in Southport town centre to improve services of mobile networks in the area.
The scheme, which is a joint venture between EE and Three, will deliver the next generation of internet technology to the area. The application documents state that the existing mast needs to be replaced and council officers ruled that a full planning application is not needed.
The approval will see three existing antennae and their supporting structures removed, while two existing cabinets will be retained and relocated on the rooftop. The 5G tower would be the third of its kind in Southport, Merseyside, following on from similar developments near Kew roundabout and at Slidburn Crescent in Marshside.
