Social Network Warnings To Users

Facebook is looking into whether a data analytics firm called Cubeyou collected data for academic purposes and then used it commercially.

Facebook has sent a Cambridge Analytica warning to users informing them whether their data was breached. It added that recipients of the said warning would be shown the apps they have used and what data those apps may have gathered.

 

It has also suspended Cubeyou, a data analytics firm set up to help businesses target their marketing, ahead of an investigation that aims to determine whether the analytics firm collected data for academic purposes and then used it commercially, following a partnership with Cambridge University in the UK.

 

CNBC has reported that a personality quiz called “You Are What You Like” has redirected users to a separate app called “Apply Magic Sauce” without any clear explanation that it was a different product, with different terms and conditions.

 

Cubeyou has denied all allegations saying it has always complied with Facebook rules.

 

The news comes as Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg confirmed how he plans to begin two days of testimony to Congress in Washington regarding the recent scandals. He is expected to reiterate his commitment to never letting advertisers or developers “take priority over” his firm’s mission to connect people.
