Many smart gadgets that are now available in the market are designed to help you make yard maintenance hassle-free. Some of the gadgets that you can take advantage of are smart sprinklers, garden monitors and smart lawnmowers.
Smart sprinklers use sensors to monitor moisture levels in the soil and they are designed to automatically shut off the waterworks once the ideal amount of water has been distributed. This means that you can avoid overwatering your lawn while saving on your water bill.
Smart garden monitors, on the other hand, gather data on moisture, sunlight and soil quality, among others. Using such information, they provide recommendations on which plant will thrive in that area, peak harvest time and even compatible foliage.
There are also smart lawnmowers that will put an end to manually mowing your ever-growing patch of grass. These use GPS to create a map of your yard and then maneuver their way over tricky terrain with obstacles and slopes.
However, smart lawnmowers do not make sense to a lot of people because they are extremely expensive ($700).
"The expense has to be looked at in the context of an individual residence," says Vila. For instance, if you have a small yard and it takes you only 20 or 30 minutes to mow the grass, you probably don’t need a robot to do the work for you, he says.
